For many of us equine acupuncture appears to be a new age therapy and because it is different we might be a little hesitant about it. But let me tell you, acupuncture for horses is definitely not new.
Modern Science, mainly western society, does not fully understand acupuncture and claim that its some sort of ancient voo-doo. Because they can not understand it, it does not work and should be discredited.
Let's think about that. Just because you can not understand something does not mean it does not work. Acupuncture has existed for more than 5000 years. I know many people who have experienced great results from acupuncture.
Within every organic body exists an energy current. It goes by the name of Chi, Ki, Qi or in western society electrical energy. This energy current travel through what are known as meridians in the body. Each meridian relates to a particular organ. Thus, you will hear the meridian named after that organ such as the Heart meridian, Lung meridian, Liver meridian, and so on. These meridians are very powerful and keep the body in balance when they are working.
It is believe that illnesses occur because a point along the meridian is blocked, causing energy to not flow. Due to this blockage, the section of the body is not working at full capacity and thus it can not correct itself like it should. Equine acupuncture removes this blockage so the energy can flow again.
Equine acupuncture works by inserting needles into the acupuncture points that is believed to have blockage. It is believed that acupuncture works on the endorphin system in the body. Endorphins were once thought to only regulate pain but it is now understood that they can create different effects throughout the body.
Dr. Lauren DeRock, who specialized in equine acupuncture, tells her story about how a young colt who was kicked in the face by another horse. Because of her special training she was able to help the colt heal quickly. Within two days the colt was back to normal.
I was given the opportunity to watch a horse receive magnetic massage by an EQ-Well magnetic horse specialist. As I stood there within 5 feet from the horse, you are reminded that these creatures can do serious damage with one kick. I was amazed at their reaction to magnetic therapy.
Instead of inserting needles into the horse through the acupuncture points, the EQ-well horse specialist used a hand held magnetic field generator or magnetic roller and worked along the effected meridians. During the magnetic massage, the horse can be seen usually sticking his tongue out and sometimes sleeping. This can be quite comical to watch.
When watching a magnetic massage being performed on a horse you have to wonder what is going on internally. Of course we can not see it but magnetic therapy brings circulation to the body. In relation to equine acupuncture it helps by bringing circulation along the meridians to areas with blockage in them. Ultimately, it helps remove any energy blockage. This can be seen when the horse's recovery time is shortened and he is attentive and moving at ease.
Horses respond well to both treatments. However magnetic therapy is non-invasive. There are no needles to worry about or any fear about sterilization.
Horses undergoing a magnetic massage do not need any special treatment nor does it have to be performed by a veteranian. Your magnetic therapy horse specialist will train you on how to use magnetic therapy on your horses.
